• 48% of Canadian employees are experiencing at least one work-related mental-health risk factor, according to a new report by Manulife Corp
• 16% of working hours were lost in 2021 due to absences and presenteeism
• Mental fatigue was the number one reason why employees aren’t making healthy choices.
• Lack of work life balance and harmony was the number one mental-health risk factor.
• Work-related stress was the number one factor affecting employees’ sleep.
• The proportion of employed women aged 16 – 24 years with mental health-related disability was 17.2% in 2021. This was an increase of 7.6% points from 2019, the largest increase of all major demographic groups.
• For those in the core working ages (25 to 54 years), employed women had a higher prevalence of mental health-related disability in 2021 (13.0%; +4.7% points from 2019) than
their male counterparts (6.5%; +1.6% points from 2019)
• According the CMHA, mental health conditions were already the leading cause of disability in Canada pre-pandemic and recent research shows 37% Canadians reporting a decline in mental health since the onset of the pandemic.
• CMHA also reported that 85% of Canadians felt they needed help with their mental health during the pandemic but didn’t receive it because they didn’t know how or where to get it;

to receive help and 29% felt that they couldn’t get the access to help
